Dongying, China
Dongying is situated in the center of the Yellow River Delta with an area of 8,257 square kilometers and 2.209 million inhabitants. There are leading industries such as petrochemicals, rubber tires and petroleum equipment, as wells as emerging industries like new energy, new materials, bio medicine and new generation of information technology. Renewable energies including solar power, wind power and geothermal power are being developed here.
Dongying City exercises jurisdiction over Dongying, Hekou and Kenli Districts as well as Guangrao and Lijin Counties. It hosts China’s second largest oil field – Shengli oil field, and is listed in the first batch of international wetland cities.
Rich natural resources
There are oil, natural gas, geothermal, brine and other resources in the city. 85% of the output of Shengli Oilfield and 80% of the petroleum geological reserves are concentrated in the city, and it is also an important producing area of CNOOC Bohai Oilfield.
Distinctive ecological feature
The 1,530-square-kilometer Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve is the most complete wetland ecosystem in China’s warm temperate zone, and is being built into the Yellow River Estuary National Park. The reserve is included on the list of Wetlands of International Importance and the Yellow River Delta Migratory Bird Sanctuaries is inscribed on the World Heritage List.
Strong industrial development momentum
11 Dongying enterprises were included in China’s Top 500 Enterprises, 15 enterprises were listed in China’s Top 500 Private Enterprises, and 18 enterprises were selected into Shandong’s Top 100 Private Enterprises.
Complete transportation system
Dongying is an important access to the sea along the Yellow River basin. Dongying Port has become the largest liquid chemical port in the Bohai Rim region. A hundred-million-ton port is on the rise. Dongying Shengli Airport now serves 21 destinations across 19 cities. The construction of Tianjin-Weifang High Speed Railway is progressing smoothly.

Green & High Quality Development
In recent years, Dongying City is accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation of the energies and promoting high quality development of renewable energies. The release of the Fourteenth Five Year Plan on Renewable Energies Development of Dongying City provided guidance and guarantee to the development of renewable energies. The installed capacity of renewable energies in Dongying City has surpassed that of thermal power to become the largest power sources. Now around one third of the electricity consumed were generated by renewable energies.
An industrial cluster of renewable energies, including wind power, solar power and hydrogen is being developed here. An industrial park for wind power equipment is appealing more enterprises and will become a demonstration base for wind power production and storage. The first phase of a national pilot renewable energy storage project has been completed. The electricity recharged one-time will meet the electricity consumption of 5,000 household for a month.
The Shengli Oilfield has been unwaveringly promoting the coordinated development of traditional oil and gas, new energy, and green and low-carbon industries, and has blazed a unique path of deep integration and innovation between oil and gas development and green and low-carbon development. It has built the first large-scale integrated smart energy system with independent intellectual property rights in the oil and gas field in China, integrating production, transmission, consumption, and storage of green energies into one process. As a result, the proportion of green electricity in the direct energy consumption of oilfield production has been increased to 23.2%. The Qilu Petrochemical-Shengli Oilfield CCUS project is the first million-tonne level CCUS project in China, capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by a million tons annually.
